Privacy Notice
1. Who we are
Cana is a membership community in Austin, Texas for Christian singles who are seeking marriage. We host vetted, in-person gatherings and provide related member services. When we say "we" in this notice, we mean Cana Gatherings LLC, a Texas limited liability company. You can reach us any time at contact@joincana.com.
2. What we collect
- Waitlist: your name and email address.
- Membership application: full legal name, preferred name, email, mobile phone, date of birth, city or neighborhood, marital status, church home, your written answers about your faith and what you are looking for in marriage, and your affirmation of the Cana Statement of Faith.
- Events: RSVPs, attendance, and anything you volunteer to a host, for example a dietary note.
- Event media: photos and short video taken at gatherings, subject to the opt-out in Section 7.
- Payments: handled by our payment provider. We see confirmation of payment. We never see or store card numbers.
3. Why we collect it
We use your information for four purposes only: to review your application for membership, to keep the community safe through identity verification and background screening, to run our gatherings and member services, and to communicate with you about Cana. We do not use your information for anything unrelated to Cana.
4. Faith-related information
Membership in Cana requires affirming a Statement of Faith, so our application asks about your Christian faith. We know this is sensitive information. It is used for one purpose, deciding membership eligibility, and it is never sold, never shared with sponsors or partners, and never used for advertising.
5. Background screening
Safety is the heart of Cana. Before joining, every member gives separate written consent to identity verification and a background screening run by a professional, accredited screening provider. The provider handles your screening data under its own privacy policy and legal obligations. Cana records only the outcome needed for a membership decision. We do not keep copies of background reports.
6. Where your information lives and who can see it
- Forms: our application and waitlist forms run on trusted form providers that store submissions encrypted.
- Working records: application data syncs to a private spreadsheet used to manage applications and vetting.
- Screening: the screening provider described in Section 5.
- Email: our email service, for the messages we send you.
Access is limited to the founder and, as the community grows, trained hosts who need specific information to run an event safely. Hosts never receive your application answers or screening information.
7. What we never do
- We never sell your information.
- We never give member lists or contact details to sponsors, churches, advertisers, or other third parties.
- We never share your contact details with another member unless you both opt in through Cana.
- We never post your photo with your name without your consent, and you may opt out of event photography at check-in at any gathering.
8. How long we keep it
Waitlist entries until you join or ask to be removed. Applications that do not result in membership are deleted within 12 months. Member records are kept for the life of the membership plus 24 months. Screening outcomes are kept for the life of the membership. You may request earlier deletion at any time as described below.
9. Your choices
Email contact@joincana.com from the address we have on file to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. We will act promptly and confirm when it is done, keeping only what the law requires us to keep. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link.
10. Adults only
Cana is for adults 21 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
11. Changes to this notice
If we change this notice, we will post the updated version here with a new date, and for meaningful changes we will email members.
